Aubrac was predeceased by his equally famous wife, Lucie, who died in 2007 at the age of 94.<\/p>\n<p>Lucie was one of the founders of the resistance group <em>Liberation-Sud<\/em> in the South of France, where she taught\u00a0at a lycee in Lyon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/secondbysecondworldwar.com\/?attachment_id=591\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-591\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-591\" title=\"Lucie Aubrac: the movie\" src=\"https:\/\/secondbysecondworldwar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Waubrac3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/secondbysecondworldwar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Waubrac3.jpg 225w, https:\/\/secondbysecondworldwar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Waubrac3-112x150.jpg 112w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>In her book <em>Outwitting the Gestapo<\/em> (University of Nebraska Press, 1993), she describes how she helped her husband escape from prison following Raymond&#8217;s capture and torture at the hands of Gestapo chief Klaus Barbie, the infamous &#8216;Butcher of Lyon&#8217;.
